Eli is starting to creep into the 12-18 month sized clothes. He only weighs a mere 18 pounds, but he is long. He has a massive appetite: nursing every 3-4 hours and eating 3 large meals a day, plus a mid afternoon snack. The other morning he almost finished off 2 scrambled eggs for breakfast. He will eat almost anything we give him and it's hard to tell which ones are his favorites. Watermelon and salmon are definitely at the top of his list. He pretty much eats whatever we do, only cut up into little pieces! We eat healthy and we do not add salt to his food, so I feel good about his diet. He has fresh fruit and veggies at least twice a day, and he loves meats. He shovels his food into his mouth so fast that it is hard to cut it up fast enough.
He is loving his freedom that comes with crawling. He can pull up to a stand and stand up on his own for a brief second. He is already trying to take steps, but he can't even balance quite yet. He walks with our assistance, but right now, he prefers to get down and crawl. He is already in the phase of wanting to do things on his own, so it doesn't surprise me that he wants to get to where he's going all by himself.
Everything goes straight to his mouth, so we are always right behind him. I don't blame him though, because his top two teeth are starting to break through. The first sign was that he was not sleeping very well. He would start to move around in his sleep and would need to be bounced back to sleep. One night, he was awake for two hours in the middle of the night... not fussing or crying... just awake. We were fools for thinking that would we the worst of this round of teething. He had two days (last week) of absolute misery, including a fever and a rash. Nights were the worst. He would just wake up screaming. Inconsolable. So pitiful. For hours. We gave him baths, walked outside, Advil, anything to keep him from screaming. Knock on wood, but he's been feeling much better since then.
The most excited changes this month have been his speech. He knows what "mama", "dada", "bubba", "hey", and "bye bye" mean, and he loves saying them. In addition to those, he will repeat after us when we ask him (sometimes!). He has said "all done", "dog", "puppy", "moo", "meow", and "blue". He babbles a lot and makes the silliest faces. He has such a fun personality. He loves flirting and waving. Just look at the face he was making at a pretty girl at our 4th of July party:
He has really taken a liking to stuffed animals, and he loves to read. We read "Baby Cakes" every night at bedtime. It is such a cute little book for babies! We know the book by heart now, so if he starts fussing in the car, Jonathan and I will recite it and it usually calms him down. Our other trick for kicking the fussy attitude is a stroller ride around the neighborhood. He usually needs a change of scenery around 4:00pm, so we will go for a walk and he eats his snack in the stroller.
He has changed so much from our last update!
